“BAPTISM”: What does it mean to you?!

Thought about getting baptized? Want to get baptized? Click here to register.

Beloved, as I wrote this post to inspire and encourage you to go forward with that decision of getting baptized, and what baptism means to me, I had to include this post from a sister of mine. I call her FUNK, but she’s known as Heather Palacios. Check out what this FUNKy chick wrote on Baptism... CLICK HERE and drive on by to HER page.

Baptism means doing the UNthinkABLE.
As God created the heavens and the earth and all that was in them, He meticulously and willingly gave of His love and grace to all of His creation especially the man and woman as we read in Genesis 1:26.

The human race was begotten and given everything God had created for them to reign over, in which in turn should have resulted in our endless praise and willing adoration for our heavenly Father and God.

But this wasn’t the case. Instead of us giving ourselves; our love and adoration freely to our amazing Creator God, we held back, turned away and gave ourselves freely and willingly to everything else in creation rather than the Creator Himself... A sad moment in our history.

As beach baptism at Potential Church draws near, I thought of all the things I have heard and learned of what Baptism was and meant.

•Baptism is a public advertisement/statement to the world that you are a follower of Jesus Christ

•Baptism is putting on your “God Jersey.”

•Baptism is the next step in your journey with God after accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior

•Baptism is the OUTWARD expression of an INWARD commitment

I knew all these things, and believe all these things and I followed the Lord in baptism after receiving Him as my Lord and personal Savior. I spoke and taught what baptism was, and proudly wore my “God Jersey,” as my OUTWARD expression of my INWARD commitment to follow the Lord, but something was missing... What did Baptism personally mean to me?

Yesterday (9/17/2012) was a day in which I asked the Lord, “What is baptism to me?” I knew I had to answer this for myself, but it is always great and wise to engage the Lord in conversation. As I reflected on such a question, and thought of all the things I learned, witnessed and embraced concerning baptism, I came to a wonderful place of revelation.

Baptism meant something absolutely personal to me now! Hallelujah!

It meant becoming the UNthinkABLE . As I mentioned earlier instead of giving ourselves completely to God, after He made and gave everything for us, God Himself did the unthinkable... He gave Himself to us unconditionally and sacrificially. He came to planet earth, put on the same flesh we had modeling what true worship and praise was to God in the form of the person Jesus; God’s very Son.

Jesus taught us everything. He taught us that instead of hate we should love. Instead of greed we should give and give generously. Instead of demand we should serve others. Instead of arrogance we should be humble. Instead of revenge we should embody God’s grace and peace. Instead of worry we should trust in God. Instead of sorrow we could embrace the Lord’s joy and peace. Instead of feeling lost we would find purpose in Him Jesus. Instead of continual tasks we could learn to be still and fellowship with God. Instead of doing for ourselves only we could do unto others as we would like done to ourselves all the while praying for others. Instead of a life of hardship we could come to Jesus for rest. Instead of disbelief we should believe in God and also believe in Him.

But Jesus also spoke directly towards baptism. Jesus knew this area of our walk was so crucial, but many would stumble at this point. Jesus said these very important words and it’s a MANDATE for Kingdom citizenship:

“I am telling you the truth: no one can see the Kingdom of God without being born again.” (John 3:3 GNT)

Of course Jesus knew we would still struggle with this crucial point in our God journey, so Jesus furthered explained:

“I am telling you the truth, that no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. A person is born physically of human parents, but is born spiritually of the Spirit. Do not be surprised because I tell you that you must all be born again. The wind blows wherever it wishes; you hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. It is like that with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:5-8 GNT)

Beloved, Jesus knew we would struggle with baptism, and He further knew we would struggle in that as we got baptized we would not physically feel different, but Jesus assures us that following Him in baptism we will see the Kingdom of God. Amen. For any further discovery into the importance and blessings of following the Lord Jesus into BAPTISM, please (click here).

Jesus, the very Son of God did the UNthinkABLE. He drew near to us, He called us, He modeled righteous living for us. He sacrificed His life then we could have life, by becoming sin although there was no sin in Him, in order for us; God’s creation, to know the Righteousness of God. Amen!

Jesus did the UNthinkABLE. He, being God Himself, was baptized by a man to model for us that we are to do all that God commands us, and we too, would be an example to others in following the Lord’s example in Baptism.

Jesus did the UNthinkABLE. He paid the penalty of Sin; which is missing the mark of God’s glorious and perfect standard of right living, in order for us to know the immeasurable and insurmountable love of God. Amen.

Jesus did the UNthinkABLE. He demonstrated God’s own love towards us, when He died for ALL OF US, while we were still sinners.

Jesus did the UNthinkABLE. In dying and keeping His Word; His Promise to be raised on the third day after His death on the Cross, He opened the door once again to communication and peaceful existence with God. Hallelujah and Amen!

Jesus did the UNthinkABLE. He promised that everyone who believed in Him would have eternal life, so much so, His very words to us were these:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Beloved, to me, baptism means becoming the UNthinkABLE. Whatever the world would have us do, let us do as Jesus did, what was contrary to popular opinion and the world’s belief system and live a life of true praise and worship to God showing our immense love and adoration for all that He has done, and for who He is both now and forever. Amen!

So this coming Beach Baptism as you follow the Lord in baptism and publicly proclaim you are a follower of Christ while wearing your eternal “God Jersey” know that it is exactly as we ought to do, but as I have the honor and great blessing of knowing now... Make baptism personal to you on that day and forever. Amen.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. (2 Corinthians 13:14)

As always... YOU ARE LOVED

  1. Thank you for sharing what BAPTISM means to you...as always reflecting and sharing how God speaks into your life. Love how UNthinkABLE was shown to you. For me it was the day I knew all that God said He had, was mine too. Not the things of this world but of our Heavenly Father. My life has never been the same. I believed and received it. Peace, love, joy, etc. Can't wait to see that this coming baptism. Look forward serving along side you as we cheer our brothers and sisters!

As always you are loved by your Nena!
