Have You Experienced D.T.S.D.?

Good afternoon Beloved,

Today I read my daily devotional and the message today was entitled, “The Hidden Door.” It spoke about giving into desires that would hurt us instead of help us.

As I read, and researched the verses below to get a greater perspective on the message, I was reminded that desires (of the flesh) give birth to temptation, which grows to sin, and eventually death if not taken care of.

The imagery of the above words is a frightening one. Yet, the vivid warning it gives us should be scary enough to keep us from it, all of us at some point have seen the downward spiral as follows:

Desire -> Temptation -> Sin -> Death

Such as the above, easily overtakes us slowly but surely. I know I have, and I have known many who have as well. Is there any hope then?

The devotional also spoke about living secret lives in the dark, that when exposed destroy our integrity and what we so passionately said we lived out. I won’t write too much more as this blog post isn’t about a story, but more so about encouragement for us to plug back into our source (Jesus our hope), then we are strengthened, and that exchange of our weakness for God’s strength can occur allowing us to be renewed for our continued journey. Amen.

So take a few moments and look up the below verses in scripture, and ask God to connect with you as you seek Him out in His Word. Read them twice. Think about how it pertains to your current life now and how you can apply them to it. And lastly, but certainly not least. Speak to God about what you have read, learned and have concerns with. Guaranteed, you will be blessed by it. God’s grace and peace to you. As always... YOU ARE LOVED.

So, how do we avoid giving in? We acknowledge the universality of temptation (1 Cor. 10:13). We recognize the dangerous results of giving in to sin (James 1:13-15). We keep accountable to fellow believers (Eccl. 4:9-12). And we plead with God for help not to fall (Matt. 26:41). Only God’s grace and power can keep us from falling and pick us up when we do. —Dave Branon
