The Watchmen

In the pursuit of liberty and freedom from evil, we must embody the spirit of the watchmen. With that being said, I now invite you Into My HEART...

O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen on your walls; they will pray day and night, continually. Take no rest, all you who pray to the Lord. (Isaiah 62:6 NLT)

What is a watchmen? This has to be the simple and direct way to understanding. To ask a question in order to gain knowledge and never to assume. A watchmen was one who would remain up while the rest slept. He never left his post and was vigilant to any enemy that sought to draw near or advance on the castle. We have modern day watchmen. In London you have the Queens guards or when the monarchy is male, they are referred to the King’s guards. These men are called “Sentry” or in America you have the military might of the Marines and as per a retired Master Sergeant having served his country for 21 years, when ‘conflicts are heavy the Army branch of the U.S. Military will also be deployed depending on what part of the world the conflict is prevalent. Such branches are the first defense to charge into battle. They watch on the fence or the cusp of borders to make sure America’s enemies will never gain the upper hand. To be watchmen, you must be called to it and not merely stumble onto it as it were. Watchmen are men (and women in this day and age) of honor and valor, and their life is of no value in comparison to the life of their King, Queen or President and the people of such a kingdom or country. To them, such lives are of far more value.

A certain man; a watchmen living for the glory of God in Christ alone, lived such a life that his life was of no value to him compared to knowing the love of Christ and making God’s grace known with the life and ministry he was given. His name was Paul:

However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.
(Acts 20:24 NIV)

Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have put aside all else, count it worth less than nothing, in order that I can have Christ, and become one with him, no longer counting on being saved by being good enough or by obeying God’s laws, but by trusting Christ to save me; for God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith—counting on Christ alone.
(Philippians 3:8-9 TLB)

A watchmen is vigilant; vigilant against evil taking place and having its way: Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. (Ephesians 5:15-17 NIV)

A watchmen gives of himself or herself entirely to the cause of liberty and freedom for God’s name sake: Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:1-2 NIV)

A watchmen looks to God to never give up and to remain steadfast in his God-given endeavor: Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who does not need to be ashamed, teaching the message of truth accurately. (2 Timothy 2:15 NET)

When I think of kings and masters, I think of subjects and servants. Subjects and servants don’t delay in doing their king or master’s bidding. A subject or servant says to their king or master, “As the king has decreed so it shall be done!” and a servant “As my master wishes I shall do.”

The one who has ears had better listen!” (Matthew 13:9 NET)

In Christ, we are all called to be watchmen, men and women of honor and valor, who will forsake all things and even our own lives if need be, for the cause of Christ who is liberty and the One who sets the captives free. In knowing such a thing and called to such a privilege, I must look into the Perfect Law of God and inquire ever so humbly yet boldly of the Lord, “O Lord, by your great mercy and enduring love, remove any iniquity within me that does not do your bidding, does not fulfill everything you wish and if any should be found in me, that foolish and shameful way of teaching your Word inappropriately, do away with it forever! Amen.”

In one who by God’s grace writes and Lord permitting, teaches God’s Word according to what I hear from Him, I must warn you that not all who teach the Word of God are of God, just as it is written, ‘not all are Israel who are Israel’ (Romans 9:6). Those who are of Him, are governed by God’s Spirit in true freedom in Christ serving Him with a heart filled with endless gratitude and thanksgiving to Him as Lord and not mere works [what we see on the outside]. Therefore, seek out the truth, so you will not be deceived by all sorts of evil. Amen.

As I began with a verse from Isaiah, so shall I end. A watchmen is indeed a man called to honor and valor, but never will there be a greater watchmen, then one who looks to the Lord and is surrendered to His will. Amen.

As always...YOU ARE LOVED.
